Church of Santa Maria do Olival
This church was pantheon of the Order of the Temple , whereit is buried Gualdim Pais , founder of Tomar . Once down the stairs , count 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 steps , magic number for the Templars , the symbol of infinity and wisdom. On the floor of the church there is a higher slab aligned differently , where , according to legend , there is a tunnel that linked the Church to the Castle of Tomar. Also curious is the skull in the 2nd Chapel , unusual element in Catholic culture .

Gualdim Pais

Being the founder of Tomar, we had to dedicate him a room. Fought alongside of Dom Afonso Henriques and founded the Castle of Tomar. Was the Grand Master of the Knights Templar , and died in 1195, lying buried in the Church of “ Santa Maria do Olival” grove.
